BEIJING — Vice-Premier Wang Yang has said that the government should reinforce capital and personnel support to achieve the annual target of poverty reduction.

The country aims to reduce the population in poverty by more than 10 million this year. Facing the arduous task, the country must prioritize poverty relief through relocation, education and by providing industrial, financial and medical support, Wang told a conference.

The country should strictly implement measures on evaluating local governments’ poverty relief efforts and on exit mechanism of people in poverty, Wang said.

China will also enhance supervision over the use of capital earmarked for poverty relief, and coordinate short-term and long-term efforts, according to the vice-premier.
