Vice-premier urges efforts in meeting poverty relief target

Vice-Premier Wang Yang urged enhancing effectiveness in implementing the central government’s measures on poverty alleviation at a State Council meeting on poverty reduction on Sept 12.

Wang stressed at the meeting that the mechanism and policies on poverty alleviation should be improved, with efforts to enhance the effectiveness of targeted poverty alleviation, mobilize the enthusiasm of cadres at grassroots levels and increase people’s sense of gain.

He also called for adopting specific plans in rectifying issues for poverty alleviation, making clear work division in related departments, setting a timeline for rectification work, and implementing rectification responsibility.

Meanwhile, the standards and procedures for the withdrawal of poor counties from the country’s list of impoverished counties should be regulated, and stricter assessment and inspection are needed in examing the withdrawal work, Wang said.
