China hopes to promote cooperation with Wales

CARDIFF, Wales — China is willing to work with Wales to promote people-to-people exchanges, Chinese Vice-Premier Liu Yandong said Sept 18.

Liu met with Carwyn Jones, the first minister of Wales, on Sept 18 in Cardiff.

The relationship between China and Wales is an important part of China-UK relations and an example of friendly exchanges and cooperation between them, Liu said.

In recent years, communication and practical cooperation between China and Wales have been expanded constantly and China is willing to work with Welsh people to tap the potential and promote extensive cooperation in education, culture and other areas in the field of people-to-people exchanges and achieve more pragmatic results, she said.

Jones said that Wales and China have witnessed an increasing number of friendly exchanges in the past few years. People in Wales attaches great importance to China and hope to have closer cooperative relationship with China.

The first minister said he hoped that Liu’s visit could become an opportunity to further enhance mutually beneficial cooperation with China in economy, investment and trade.

He said the agreements signed by China and Wales concerning academic and cultural cooperation could further enhance mutual understanding and friendship.
