The country needs to upgrade its agricultural production, said Vice-Premier Wang Yang in a conference in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, on July 24.

In order to cope with the challenges of limited natural resources and intense international competition, the agricultural sector should use latest technologies and methods, said Wang.

The country should restructure its agricultural industry, improve the quality of produce, increase farmers’ income and develop better technologies to enhance output and save resources, he added.

He also emphasized that the work of upgrading agriculture must be carried out in a substantial and deliberate manner, and the authorities must respect the will of farmers and protect their rights when carrying out the reforms.
