Vice-Premier Wang Yang said that the biggest challenge in building up an overall well off society lies in the impoverished rural areas, and local authorities should help the poor out of poverty in an accurate way.

He made the statement during an inspection tour in Guizhou province, where poverty relief and development work has achieved fruitful results in recent years. The vice-premier visited impoverished districts and counties of Bijie City, Guizhou province, from May 6 to 9. While there he made a survey of the living conditions of local residents and the implementation of anti-poverty policies and studied new measures with local officials.

Wang stressed that authorities should be fully informed about poverty, including its causes and degrees of impoverishment, and the difficulty of raising people out of poverty. Differentiated approaches should be used, depending on different conditions. The actual performance of authorities should be assessed so that poverty reduction work can be managed in a more accurate way.
