Vice-premier meets International Olympic Committee chief inspector

BEIJING — International Olympic Committee (IOC) chief inspector Alexander Zhukov spoke positively on March 27 about Beijing’s bid for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

Zhukov, chairman of the 19-member IOC evaluation commission which is in Beijing assessing the city’s 2022 bid, told Vice-Premier Liu Yandong following the conclusion of presentations and site inspections. He expressed his satisfaction with their inspection visit, saying that it “has given us much deeper understanding of Beijing’s unique strength”.

Liu Yandong reiterated the full support of the Chinese government and people for the 2022 bid and said that Beijing 2022 will improve its work in accordance with the suggestions given by the IOC evaluation commission.

The IOC evaluation commission is scheduled to hold a press conference on March 28 before they depart and turn to compiling their evaluation report.

The IOC will select the host city on July 31 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
