Premier vows more cooperation with World Bank

Premier Li Keqiang called for more cooperation between China and the World Bank (WB) to develop new growth drivers, as he met with visiting World Bank President Jim Yong Kim on May 14.

The Premier said he appreciated the cooperation and hoped that it can help China transform and upgrade its economy. China desires to not only shift traditional industries, but also to develop new growth drivers, he said.

He said, that as the largest developing country in the world, China is willing to shoulder its responsibility, joining in the cooperation among developing countries to fight poverty and promote development. He hoped that the World Bank, a significant global multilateral development organization, can lead the international community to promote economic globalization, cooperation and shared prosperity.

Jim Yong Kim said the cooperation between the World Bank and China is effective. He said the World Bank highly appreciates healthcare reform in China, adding that it can offer useful experience for other countries.

He wished to continue cooperation with China, saying that the World Bank is confident of China’s reform, scientific innovation and fostering new growth drivers.

The World Bank president came to attend the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing.

State Councilor Yang Jing also attended the meeting.
