China is willing to carry out production capacity cooperation with Mauritania through co-building steel and cement plants to speed pragmatic cooperation.

Premier Li Keqiang made the comment when meeting with visiting Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz on Sept 15 in Beijing.

China and Mauritania enjoy traditional friendship, Li said, China would like to enhance mutual trust and deepen cooperation with Mauritania, as this year is the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.

He also told Aziz that as Mauritania is striving to promote economic development and pushing forward industrialization, China would also like to participate in the country’s processing of agricultural and animal products, and developing marine fishery resource, to further bilateral pragmatic cooperation.

Li also noted that current humanitarian crises, caused by turmoil in West Asia and North Africa, have attracted concern from the international community. Relevant parties should work out long-term solutions to the root causes of problems, while handling current issues, in order to keep the peace in the region, he said.

Aziz said the China-Mauritania relationship shares a solid foundation and achievements have been made in various fields.

His country is willing to learn from China’s experience and try to implement the cooperation consensus reached between the two countries, he said.

He added that Mauritania is willing to strengthen cooperation in areas such as electricity, minerals and renewable resources with China, to promote the development of a bilateral relationship.
