Premier Li Keqiang said that China’s nuclear industry should carry on its great tradition, focus on forefront research, increase its competitiveness and utilize its advantages, while tapping into overseas markets for its nuclear power equipment.

The Premier made the comments in a statement issued on Jan 15, the 60th anniversary of the establishment of China’s nuclear industry.

Premier Li stressed the importance of safety at China’s nuclear facilities, and called for more efforts to boost the country’s nuclear industry.

China decided to develop its own atomic energy industry 60 years ago, and has established a system of nuclear science and technology industries. The country’s peaceful use of nuclear power on a large scale has made a positive contribution to economic and social development and has improved people’s livelihood.
