The State Council on Sept 15 approved the establishment of the Dianzhong new district in a bid to foster new economic growth points.

The new district, requested by Southwest China’s Yunnan province, is strategically located to the east and west of downtown Kunming, capital city of the province.

The first phase of the new district will cover roughly 482 square kilometers, including the city of Anning, the Songming county, and part of Guandu district, which enjoys a strong industrial development base and innovation capabilities.

The State Council urged local government to explore new and efficient work mechanisms to turn the new district into a crucial pillar for regional economic growth, as well as an important hub to open up to South Asia and Southeast Asia.

Additionally, the State Council will support and guide the development of the new district through policy implementation and project arrangement.
