China’s embassy in Japan and four nongovernmental organizations held activities to mark the 78th anniversary of the July 7th Incident.

Speaking to the audience, Chinese ambassador to Japan, Cheng Yonghua fully acknowledged the commemoration activities launched by these Japanese organizations. Noting that this year serves as the 70th anniversary of the victory of the War Against Japanese Aggression and the world’s anti-Fascist War, Ambassador Cheng said China and Japan are close neighbors who cannot avoid each other. He said this anniversary is quite crucial for Japan to earnestly reflect on its wartime aggression history, and take history as a mirror and face up to the future.

A former Japanese veteran echoed Cheng’s view, saying there will be no genuine China-Japan friendship if Tokyo fails to develop a correct understanding of history.
