World Expo 2015 officially kicked off in Milan, Italy on May 1. This year’s theme, “Feeding the planet, Energy for life”, concerns how to guarantee healthy, safe and sufficient food for everyone, and China is making a high-profile contribution with its national pavilion which includes sections titled: Heaven, Humankind, Earth and Harmony.
The exhibits at China’s pavilion include hieroglyphs inscribed on oracle bones and silk related to the Silk Road, the ancient trade route between China and Europe.
For China, how to produce enough staple crops is central to its agriculture and food security, and visitors can see a film, shown on an ultrahigh definition screen, combining Chinese traditional water color painting with 3-D effects. The film is titled Back Home, and there is also much else to explore at the pavilion - and at the various other pavilions at Expo 2015.
