Some 2,000 performers participated in a parade through Macao Special Administrative Region on Dec 14 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the city’s return to the motherland.

Officially named “Parade through Macao, Latin City,” this annual event saw bands of brightly-dressed musicians, dancers and troupe members from around the world.

It started from the iconic Ruins of St. Paul’s, traveled through the region’s Latin quarters with lively performances, and culminated two hours later in Tap Seac Square.

This year, the city’s Cultural Affairs Bureau has also introduced an official mascot for the event.

Chan Zing-Tak is a public relations officer at the bureau.

“This year we have included themes associated with outer space, with our parade mascot VIVA promoting the concept of ‘Peace, Love and Cultural Integration’ among the general public.”

The annual parade aims to highlight the city’s unique cultural features and multicultural atmosphere.
