Hu Chunhua, head of the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development and member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made an inspection visit to Lvliang city, Shanxi province, from Jan 27 to Jan 28, urging that poor people be free of worries about food and clothing. He also urged ensuring compulsory education, basic medical care, and housing security.
Hu learned about the production and living conditions of local villagers during the inspection, which included dilapidated housing renovation and drinking water safety in rural areas.
Helping poor people have no worries about food and clothing, and guaranteeing their compulsory education, basic medical care, and housing security will be winning the fight against poverty, Hu said, adding that optimized policies and detailed implementation plans are needed.
He also said that central departments should strengthen overall planning to implement special actions for solving related problems.
Poverty-stricken areas should strengthen integration of poverty alleviation funds, provide preferential support in line with local conditions, and accelerate poverty alleviation progress while ensuring quality, Hu added.
