Vice-Premier Hu Chunhua urged pushing targeted poverty alleviation in line with new situations and new requirements.

The vice-premier made the remarks at a meeting on promoting targeted poverty alleviation carried out by State organs and State-owned enterprises on Sept 17 in Beijing.

Targeted poverty reduction should be enhanced with pragmatic efforts, clear requirements and a focus on task fulfillment, Hu said.

Capable cadres should be selected and social forces should be encouraged to participate in work, he added.

Enterprises should be guided to develop businesses and create job opportunities in designated poverty-stricken counties, the vice-premier said. In addition, those counties should also formulate plans on poverty elimination and cultivate grassroots teams to promote such work.

State organs and State-owned enterprises are expected to use their own strengths to help those counties and innovate poverty reduction methods, Hu said.
