Hu Chunhua, vice-premier and head of the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development, inspected poverty alleviation in the south of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region from Aug 30 to 31.

He stressed that the government should insist on the precision of poverty alleviation, innovation of work measures, and the quality of poverty alleviation, ensuring that the fight against poverty in areas of deep poverty will be won as scheduled, he added.

Located in the southernmost part of Xinjiang, the Hetian area is an ethnic minority area, border area, plateau desertification area, and deep poverty area, with harsh natural conditions. Poverty alleviation is difficult.

Hu Chunhua visited poverty relief industrial base and rural primary schools, and conducted on-the-spot research on poverty alleviation work, getting a detailed understanding of production and living conditions, as well as the state of residents’ income growth.

In recent years, Xinjiang has made positive progress in poverty alleviation.

Hu emphasized that favorable policies, such as the establishment of infrastructure and public services, should be adopted to improve the development of deep poverty areas.

What’s more, industries in poverty-stricken areas should be developed, and awareness of relying on their own efforts to eliminate poverty should be cultivated.

He also noted the government should actively promote the development of rural industries in impoverished areas and the progress of social undertakings, as well as the integration of poverty alleviation and rural revitalization strategies.
