Vice-premier urges building world-class universities

Vice-Premier Liu Yandong said China should build world-class universities and enhance the quality of higher education on a recent visit to a local university in Southwest China’s Chongqing municipality.

Liu also visited local vocational colleges and said that vocational education should meet market demand and nurture craftsmanship and high-quality skilled workers.

She urged following education principles, enhancing teacher quality and reforming the way that schools are operated.

In addition, she visited a TCM hospital in Chongqing and a community healthcare service center and said we should improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare services, streamline the hierarchical medical system and put more resources into grassroots healthcare institutions.

She urged improving family doctor services and better inheriting and innovating traditional Chinese medicine, and providing more support for TCM hospitals.

The vice-premier also visited revolutionary heritage sites and sci-tech innovative enterprises in the southwest municipality.
