Vice-Premier Liu Yandong inspected the preparation work for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics at Capital Stadium on Feb 1. She extended New Year’s greetings to athletes, coaches and other staffers, and encouraged them to achieve good results.

Liu heard a preparation report, watched the training for figure skating, and communicated with some athletes. She noted that China’s winter sports is faced with unprecedented development opportunities, with Beijing winning the bid to host the 2022 Winter Games.

Pyeongchang Winter Olympics is the first important and comprehensive international sports competition for the Chinese sports delegation since the 19th CPC National Congress.

Liu expressed the hope that participants could overcome difficulties, strive for success, and show positive images of the country as well as Chinese athletes.

The vice-premier stressed that all preparations should be done with attention and efficiency, and there should be zero tolerance for doping. She said that it is also a good opportunity to accumulate experiences in competition, training management, event organization and sports science.
