Vice-Premier Wang Yang stressed the significance of industrial development for poverty alleviation during an inspection tour to Anhui province on May 16.

A precise target in poverty relief work is needed, and industry can be a sustainable support for lifting people out of poverty, Wang said. Resources in poverty-stricken areas should be utilized to their full capacity in order to help the cultivation of their own industries. A rural collective economy should also be encouraged, according to Wang.

In Meishan town and Baitafan town of Jinzhai county, one of key counties in the national program to reduce poverty, Wang inquired in detail about the construction and operation of the photovoltaic power station, the subsidy to electric bills and the distribution of the revenue from electricity generation.

The vice-premier also received advice from local officials and people on poverty reduction through industrial development.

Wang spoke highly of the poverty relief work in Anhui province and called for further efforts to develop a comprehensive poverty reduction plan based on local conditions and market rules.
