Vice-Premier Wang Yang said the government should take better precautionary measures before the flood and carry out detailed plans to protect people’s lives and the safety of crucial infrastructure.

He made the remarks while inspecting flood control in Northeast China’s Liaoning province on July 30.

As the head of the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, the vice-premier inspected the flood prevention projects in Shenyang, the capital city of Liaoning, and was briefed on local flood control work.

The recent heavy rainfalls have caused severe damage in Liaoning. According to weather forecast, more rains are expected in the coming days.

The vice-premier urged local governments to stay alert for the unpredictable extreme weather.

He also said that local governments must implement the top leadership’s instructions on flood control, pay more attention to precaution rather than salvage and publish early warning information more quickly. In addition, the flood control measures in rural and suburban areas should be enhanced.
