Vice-Premier Wang Yang urged greater development in the field of farmland irrigation to bolster agricultural modernization on Jan 5.

More efforts should be made to arouse the enthusiasm of farmers to participate in farmland irrigation work, said Wang at a meeting on irrigation in Qujing, Yunnan province.

Wang urged to improve the agricultural water price formation mechanism and attract more social capital to help the development of farmland irrigation.

Wang also encouraged the grass roots to make bold attempts to carry out pilot projects and learn from the experiences of other regions.
