Vice-Premier Wang Yang urged more accurate poverty-alleviation policies and reinforced support toward certain ethnic groups that have directly transformed from primitive or slave societies to modern societies.

Wang made the remarks on an inspection trip to Southwest China’s Yunnan province, where many such groups inhabit in isolated and adverse conditions. Wang visited impoverished local Lahu and Blang communities in Menghai County from Jan 2 to Jan 4.

Wang urged local governments to carefully analyze reasons for poverty in the ethnic communities by setting up profiles for every single person plagued by poverty and making sure policies are well implemented.

He also called for strengthening educational training for young people of such ethnic groups and communication with the outside world.
