Vice-Premier Liu Yandong urged fully advancing the modernization of education by taking advantage of information technology, during a teleconference on Nov 19.

At the teleconference on national education informatization, the vice-premier stressed that information technology, education and innovation and entrepreneurship must be further integrated to promote equality and quality of education.

Prominent achievements have been made in education informatization since 2011, with breakthroughs in the three projects of giving every student access to broadband networks, high-quality educational resources and Web-based learning space, she said.

Speaking of the next five years, the vice-premier urged wider application of modern information technology in education to narrow the gap among students from different schools in different areas.

She called on teachers to improve their skill in using information technology to innovate teaching ideas and models, and called for educational and technological resource sharing to support mass innovation.

She also called for construction of an educational administration information system to form a nationwide cloud service system.

So far, about 85 percent of Chinese primary and middle schools have access to the Internet, and 77 percent of schools have multi-media classrooms. Classroom teaching in about 37.1 percent of schools is carried out by applying digital educational resources.
