Vice-Premier Wang Yang said that change in agriculture’s development mode should be accelerated and innovation in its system and mechanism be enhanced so that China’s agricultural modernization can be significantly promoted.

He made the remarks during an inspection tour of rural areas in China’s eastern Jiangsu province, Sept 24 to 25.

Wang visited Tongshan District, Suining County and Peixian County of Xuzhou City, and examined farmers’ specialized cooperative and rural collective economy. He stressed that authorities should bring new ideas into operation and explore land trusteeship and pooling land contract rights as shares, in an effort to promote moderate-scale management. The vice-premier also highlighted the importance of the farmers’ specialized cooperative, saying it is the platform through which farmers could cooperate and unite. The rural collective economy should be further developed and collective property rights reform advanced, he added.
