Vice-Premier Zhao Gaoli visited the Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau and the China Meteorological Administration on Aug 31 to inspect their work and ensure good air quality in Beijing during the commemorations of the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.

After listening to a report by the environmental protection authorities and addressing a video conference with related departments in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province, Zhang said efforts to curb air pollution are needed to successfully hold the commemoration activities, raise China’s national image and protect people’s health.

Zhang ordered tougher action to monitor air quality, carry out random checks and make sure the efforts show results.

Beijing Party chief Guo Jinlong was also present at the inspections.
