Vice-premier stresses importance of big data development

The importance of the innovative development of the big data industry was highlighted by Vice-Premier Ma Kai at the opening ceremony of the Guiyang International Big Data Expo 2015 on May 26 in Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province.

Internet-based big data has a profound impact on various economic and social areas, Ma said in a keynote address, and has brought many business opportunities and created space for entrepreneurship.

The government will make better use of new information technology, such as big data and cloud computing, to support mass innovation and increase the quality and efficiency of economic development, he said.

He also stressed that more would be done to promote the transformation of government functions, improve the government’s capability to provide public services, and guarantee better living conditions for the public with these technologies.

China is willing to work with other countries, he said, amid opportunities and challenges, to accelerate the utilization of data resources, promote the study of key technologies concerning the collection, storage and analysis of big data, he said.

He also called for cooperation in applying big data in industries and public services, to facilitate its openness to benefit more people, and improve security and legal support for big data, and contribute to international economic and social development.
