Vice-Premier Liu Yandong, who is also the Chinese chairperson of the China-Russia Committee on Humanities Cooperation, and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets, co-hosted the 15th session of the committee in Ulyanovsk, Russia, on Sept 14.

Liu said the relationship between China and Russia is maintaining a strong momentum under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

She also said the two countries have seen very fruitful cooperation in fields including education, culture, health, sports, tourism and the media. And cooperation on humanities between the two countries is becoming a model for cultural exchanges between big countries.

Liu said the session implemented the agreement reached by the heads of state of the two countries in Shanghai in May, determined the focus of bilateral cooperation in the field of humanities in the next year, and made preparations for the 19th regular meeting between Chinese premier and Russian prime minister later this year.

According to agreement reached during the session, China and Russia are set to launch a college student exchange program, which is expected to involve 100,000 exchange students by 2020.

In 2015, the two countries will celebrate together the 70th anniversary of the victory of the anti-Fascist war and China’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, and they aim to launch a series of activities in the field of humanities to commemorate historical events - and to help build a future together.

Liu said she hopes the two countries will continue the restoration of the venue in Moscow where the 6th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was held, deepen cooperation in language teaching, and carry out the dialogue on innovation.

Golodets, who is also the Russian chairperson of the committee, said the comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership between Russia and China is mature and stable, and Russia is satisfied with the cooperation between the two countries in the field of humanities. She also said Russia is willing to work with China to deepen and widen their humanities cooperation, and further consolidate the social basis of the bilateral relationship.
