Vice-Premier Wang Yang said the government should impose closer supervision on the rural market to crack down on counterfeits, as many counterfeited goods are sold in rural areas.
Wang made the comments on Aug 26 during a meeting about crackdown on fake goods.
He also asked officials to strengthen their monitoring of the Internet and take stronger action against any act of infringement of intellectual property rights.
He added that various regions and departments have launched campaigns this year to crack down on counterfeited goods - including medicine, auto parts, construction materials and products used in agriculture.
The government should tighten its regulations and enhance market inspection, so as to guarantee fair play, Wang said.
