State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Papua New Guinea’s Foreign Minister Rimbink Pato in Beijing on April 27.
Wang said President Xi Jinping paid a historical state visit to Papua New Guinea last year, which has elevated the bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
He added that China appreciates Papua New Guinea’s active participation in building the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and is willing to carry out both leaders’ consensus and outcomes of the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, jointly with Papua New Guinea. And efforts will be made to advance cooperation projects in various fields to develop Papua New Guinea’s economy and improve its people’s lives.
Pato extended congratulations on the success of the forum and wished to enhance cooperation with China under the BRI framework.
