Wang Yi meets with Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi of Pakistan

On April 24, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi of Pakistan, who was accompanying Prime Minister Imran Khan of Pakistan for the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China.

Wang Yi said that the Chinese side attaches great importance to Prime Minister Imran Khan’s attendance at the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China, and believes that this visit will add new impetus to the development of all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries. Pakistan is China’s only all-weather strategic partner. No matter how the international situation changes, the special friendship between China and Pakistan is rock-solid and unshakable. The two sides have always supported each other and helped each other. The Chinese side firmly supports the Pakistani side in safeguarding its sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence and national dignity, choosing its development path according to its national conditions, establishing a better security environment and playing a more constructive role in international and regional affairs. The Chinese side appreciates the great efforts made by the Government and people of Pakistan in combating terrorism and extremism, firmly opposes any words and deeds that denigrate Pakistan’s sincerity in countering terrorism, and is willing to continue to strengthen coordination and cooperation with the Pakistani side to safeguard the common interests of the two countries.

Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Prime Minister Imran Khan is pleased to attend the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China. Every high-level exchange between Pakistan and China makes a further enhancement to the special friendly relations between the two countries. The Pakistani side is committed to combating terrorism and extremism, appreciates the Chinese side’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability, values the strong partnership with China, and will continue to further strengthen coordination and cooperation with the Chinese side in multilateral affairs to safeguard the common interests of both sides.
