State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Argentinian Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell, respectively, on April 25 in Beijing.

While meeting with Faurie, Wang said China and Argentina should further align development strategies and reinforce cooperation in such fields as infrastructure construction, trade, agriculture and energy in efforts to build the Belt and Road into a platform of common development, mutual benefits and win-win results for all countries.

Both sides should intensify communication and coordination within international organizations and multilateral mechanisms to safeguard the common interests of emerging markets and developing countries.

Faurie said Argentina is willing to deepen cooperation with China under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. His country advocates multilateralism and is willing to enhance coordination and cooperation with China in regional and international affairs.

In the meeting with Le Drian, Wang said French President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to appoint him as a special representative to attend the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation shows France’s attention to and support for the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Wang also said President Xi Jinping visited France a month ago, and the two countries’ leaders reached an important consensus on the next development of Sino-French relations as well as strategic cooperation on the international stage, adding that they should ensure the healthy development of Sino-French relations to avoid unnecessary interference.

Le Drian said BRI has made great contributions to safeguarding and maintaining multilateralism, and France is willing to work with China to continue the development momentum of the two countries’ relations and to protect multilateralism.

While meeting with Borrell, Wang said Spain is an important partner of China in co-building the Belt and Road Initiative.

Last year, President Xi paid a historic state visit to Spain, which promoted Sino-Spanish comprehensive strategic partnership to a new stage, he said, adding that the two sides should take the opportunity of building the Belt and Road Initiative to raise their cooperation level.

Borrell said he was impressed by the tremendous achievements China has made in development and believes that no country in the world could have achieved so much in such a short period of time. He said that Spain is willing to actively participate in and co-build the Belt and Road Initiative.
