State Councilor and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe met in Beijing on Oct 24 with Kim Hyong Ryong, the vice-minister of the People’s Armed Forces of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Ng Eng Hen, Singapore defense minister, and Mohamad Sabu, Malaysia’s defense minister, who are all in China to attend the 8th Beijing Xiangshan Forum.

President Xi Jinping has met with the DPRK’s leader Kim Jong Un three times this year, opening a new chapter in the development of China-DPRK relations, Wei told Kim Hyong Ryong.

China appreciates the positive measures taken by the DPRK to promote denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and supports its efforts to ease the situation, Wei said, adding that the two sides should continue to make positive contributions to the development of bilateral military relations and regional peace and stability.

Kim Hyong Ryong responded that the DPRK is willing to push forward the bilateral military relationship between the two nations.

China-Singapore relations are a model for China’s mutual benefit and win-win cooperation with neighboring countries, Wei made the remarks while meeting with Singapore’s Defense Minister Ng Eng Hen.

China is willing to work with Singapore to deepen the exchange of military services, strengthen exchanges between think-tank institutions and jointly safeguard regional peace and stability, said Wei.

The defense chief echoed Wei’s stance that the Singaporean military is willing to deepen exchanges and cooperation with China.

Wei also met with Malaysian Defense Minister Mohamad Sabu on the same day, stressing China’s willingness to deepen the pragmatic cooperation in various fields with Malaysia.

Sabu said his country will work with China to explore a new framework for cooperation in defense affairs and promote the deepening of exchanges in various fields between the two sides.
