Wang Yi, state councilor and minister of foreign affairs, held talks with his Laos counterpart, Saleumxay Kommasith, in Beijing on Aug 26.

Wang fully affirmed the momentum of development in China-Laos relations steered by the top leaders of both countries.

Against the backdrop of the Belt and Road Initiative, construction of the China-Laos Economic Corridor as well as cooperation in significant projects, matters related to people’s well-being and poverty alleviation are underway.

Positive progress has been made in the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) mechanism, Wang said, adding that China is willing to promote projects in the China-Laos Economic Corridor and construction of the China-Laos Railway along with Laos, striving to fulfill more cooperation projects.

Saleumxay Kommasith agreed and expressed the willingness of Laos to advance the Belt and Road Initiative. In the meantime, Laos will expand LMC by virtue of its position — an LMC co-chair, along with China.
