Wang Yi, state councilor and foreign minister, recently published an article in Qiushi Magazine, which was an overview of the recent SCO summit.

Wang fully affirmed the increasingly tightening bonds among SCO member nations over the past 17 years, whose cordial cooperation, integrated with construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, has risen to become an example for the rest of the world.

The Shanghai Spirit, Wang Yi wrote, which embodies mutual trust, reciprocity, equality, consultation, respect for cultural diversity, and pursuit of common development, theoretically underpins and steers SCO development. Therefore, with the Shanghai Spirit setting the path, all member nations should strive to build a community with a shared future for all mankind, injecting inexhaustible impetus into SCO development.

Guided and pressed by President Xi Jinping, the SCO summit adopted an implementation guideline for the Treaty on Long-term Good Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation, among 23 cooperation documents. That ushered in abundant security measures, development momentum, expanded cultural exchanges, and enhanced international cooperation for the SCO community.

President Xi was actively engaged in nearly 30 bilateral events during the summit, consulting with leaders of other member nations as well as nonmember states. These efforts are conducive to China-Russian ties, construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, bilateral cooperation in Central Asia, and in-depth communication and multifaceted cooperation with nonmember states.

Additionally, Wang called on member nations across the board to uphold the Shanghai Spirit against the backdrop of incessant waves of global upheavals, and unswervingly step up international security, practical regional cooperation, and global governance, with SCO development continuing to scale new heights.
