State Councilor Yang Jiechi held talks with Chung Eui-yong, national security adviser for the President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Moon Jae-in, in Beijing on March 12.

Yang said that China is willing to further implement the consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and Moon, and promote better development of Sino-ROK relations. China spoke highly of ROK’s efforts to ease tension on the Korean Peninsula, he said.

The current positive changes on the Korean Peninsula can help bring denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula into the dialogue, which accords with the UN Security Council’s direction, according to Yang.

Yang expressed the hope that all sides insist on political diplomacy, and promote the settlement of the issues. China will continue to play a positive and constructive role for this goal, he said.

Chung talked about his visit to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the US, and expressed that ROK pays great attention to Sino-ROK relations and bilateral cooperation.

Chung spoke highly of China for its important role in helping with positive changes on the Korean Peninsula. He also expressed the will to enhance communication and coordination with China, and to make joint efforts to promote denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula and progress in dialogues and consultations.
