State councilor meets French foreign minister

State Councilor Yang Jiechi met with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian in Beijing on Nov 24.

Yang introduced the important achievements of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). He said that 2017 is a special year for both China and France, as President Xi Jinping and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron had their first meeting in Hamburg.

Yang said that China is willing to further enhance high-level exchanges with France, expand people-to-people exchanges, strengthen innovation cooperation and promote the development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Le Drian said that the bilateral relations have long maintained a high level of development. He said that France will work with China to reach new breakthrough in bilateral ties.

The two also exchanged ideas on international and regional issues.
