BEIJING — China hopes for more fruitful cooperation with Malaysia in cracking down on telecom fraud, Public Security Minister Guo Shengkun said on Jan 10.

The comment came during a meeting between Guo and Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Chinese police escorted 74 telecom fraud suspects from Malaysia to China in late November. Their cases involved more than 60 million yuan ($8.7 million).

“Both countries should enhance political mutual trust, expand practical cooperation and achieve more results in countering cross-border crime, including terrorism, drug trafficking and telecom fraud,” Guo said.

China and Malaysia should work to facilitate bilateral trade and travel and foster a favorable environment for prosperity of the two countries and the region, Guo said.

Zahid said Malaysia will strengthen law enforcement and security cooperation with China to advance their relations.
