State Councilor Yang Jiechi called for promoting the strategic partnership between China and the UK, enhancing bilateral cooperation on nuclear power, high-speed trains, finance and innovation when he met with UK Prime Minister Theresa May on Dec 20.

He said top leaders of both countries reaffirmed the “Golden Age” of China-UK ties during the G20 summit in Hangzhou, which is a new impetus for bilateral cooperation.

China is willing to promote the interaction between high-level leaders of both countries and communication with the UK on international affairs to deal with global challenges and boost an open economic globalization, the State councilor said.

Theresa May said the UK treats China as an important strategic partner with promising bilateral cooperation prospects. She added that the UK is looking forward to maintaining high-level communication, enhancing bilateral cooperation in various sectors, promoting global free trade and dealing with challenges such as climate change with China and other countries.

Yang Jiechi also met and exchanged ideas with Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond.
