State Councilor Yang Jiechi attended the closing plenary of the First Session of the Climate-Smart/Low-Carbon Cities Summit with American Vice President Joe Biden on Sept 16 and delivered a speech.

Yang first commended results achieved on behalf of President Xi Jinping and the Chinese government. He expressed the feeling that the US is welcoming Xi’s state visit.

The summit is important following the China-US Joint Announcement on Climate Change released last year, and promotes global cooperation on climate change, Yang said.

The two countries should take the opportunity to strengthen cooperation with other members of the international community, he added.

Government officials, entrepreneurs and experts, more than 500 people attended the summit. The American side made positive comments on China’s efforts to deal with climate change and expressed high expectation for future cooperation.

They also attached great importance to Xi’s visit to the US and expect further communication and cooperation in various fields.
