State Councilor and Public Security Minister Guo Shengkun called for ID policy reform, especially making procedures to replace lost ID cards more efficient, during a meeting of the Ministry of Public Security on June 8.

The new policy, which will allow lost ID cards to be replaced by other authorities than the original issuers, will be more convenient and create a more secure environment, Guo said at the meeting.

Achievements have been made in adopting the ID policy, however, people still find it difficult to report lost ID cards, deactive them and get new ones, the meeting was told.

Public security departments should use the advantage of information technology and take steps to make the process more convenient by standardizing the procedure and the identity verification processes, the meeting said.
