Procedures and equipment to gather and process information should be promoted and police work must be more than slogans, State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun said at a meeting on June 2 on ensuring national and public security.

The meeting discussed concepts and methods to better use advanced technology such as big data, cloud computing and computer hardware, to improve the gathering and use of information. Accurate information was a valuable resource that will improve the work and efficiency of the police, he said.

The meeting also focused on three major tasks: maintaining stability and dealing with emergencies, crime fighting, and maintaining social order. The integration of information, command, investigations, case handling, patrols and crime prevention should be further promoted to increase the general capability of public security organs.

The meeting discussed two guidelines on the issue.
