Measures to ban drugs should be implemented better to fight the scourge of drugs, State Councilor Guo Shengkun stressed at a videophone conference in Beijing on May 11.

Guo asked the authorities to strengthen leadership, and build related institutions, equipment and infrastructure. He said that the working mechanism should be improved, inspection and control be strengthened, drug criminals be seriously punished, and laws and the supervision mechanism for easily-made drug chemicals be improved to stop drug crimes.

He also said that measures to help drug users fight addiction should be implemented and international cooperation on the issue be deepened. More emphasis should be put on people and the rule of law to handle drug problems, he added.
