German Chancellor Angela Merkel met with State Councilor Yang Jiechi on Feb 7 in Munich, Germany, with both sides actively talking about maintaining top-level interactions and enriching the good relationship.

Yang was attending the 51st Munich Security Conference in Germany. He conveyed to Merkel cordial greetings from President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang.

China and Germany have enjoyed close high-level exchanges last year, established an all-round strategic partnership and issued the Action Outline for China-Germany Cooperation, Yang said.

China prioritizes its relationship with Germany, and is willing to keep the momentum of top-level interactions, strengthen the mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas, and work with Germany on a range of important bilateral activities, including the Year of China-Germany Innovative Cooperation, Yang said. Merkel also asked Yang to extend her greetings to President Xi and Premier Li.

She said relations between Germany and China have been developing well, and her country hopes to further strengthen the all-round cooperation with China.

During his stay in Munich, Yang has also met with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu, Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Kumar Doval and others for their views on the promotion of ties between China and their countries, as well as major international and regional hotspot issues.
