State Councilor Yang Jiechi, representing President Xi Jinping, attended an official memorial for the late King Abdullah in Saudi Arabia and spoke with new King Salman on Jan 24.
Yang expressed condolences on behalf of the Chinese government, leaders and people.
Abdullah passed away in Riyadh on the morning of Jan 23. His half-brother Salman is the new ruler while Prince Muqrin has been declared the new Crown Prince.
