Defense minister meets with New Zealand guests

BEIJING — Chang Wanquan, state councilor and minister of national defense, met with Kevin Short, deputy chief of the New Zealand Defense Forces (NZDF), and Toni Lynch, deputy secretary-general of the Ministry of Defense of New Zealand, who came to China to participate in the 7th strategic dialogue between the Chinese military and the New Zealand military, in Beijing on Dec 8.

Chang stressed that the military-to-military relations between China and New Zealand have been maintaining the positive momentum of development in recent years, as evidenced by the frequent high-level contacts, smooth operation of the strategic dialogue mechanism and constant promotion of the cooperation in professional fields.

The Chinese side is willing to make joint efforts with the New Zealand side to constantly develop the exchanges and cooperation between the two militaries, so as to upgrade the military-to-military relations between China and New Zealand to a new level, Chang added.

Short and Lynch stressed that the New Zealand side attaches importance to developing the military-to-military relations between New Zealand and China and is willing to push forward the exchanges and cooperation between the two militaries to achieve more results.
