State Councilor Wang Yong visited hospitals in the cities of Wuxi, Changzhou and Nantong in east China’s Jiangsu Province on August 3 to meet survivors of the deadly factory blast that occurred a day earlier.

He also met their families, and medical staff from all over China - a day after visiting other injured survivors in Kunshan and Suzhou.

Wang has thus met a total of over 100 seriously injured survivors in 11 hospitals over two days.

He convened a special session in the affiliated hospital of Nantong Medical College on August 3, and confirmed new arrangements to treat the injured and assist the families of those killed and injured in the accident.

Wang said that, following the blast, the National Health and Family Planning Commission, authorities at all levels in Jiangsu Province - and relevant departments - immediately carried out instructions from China’s central leadership including President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang. Teams of top specialists and high-quality medical resources were deployed, and emergency workers made “all-out efforts” to rescue the injured - in a large-scale relief operation conducted in an orderly fashion.

Wang asked all relevant parties to continue doing their utmost to treat the injured - thus preventing more deaths and permanent disabilities - and carrying out their responsibilities to serve the public.

First, Wang said the doctors should examine the injured and make sure that each patient has a tailor-made treatment, and he added that the hospitals should pay special attention to individualized plans for the seriously injured - with timely adjustments according to the instructions from the doctors. All the patients must receive most efficient treatment.

Second, the National Health and Family Planning Commission should continue its efforts to send more of the country’s best experts and medical resources according to the requirements of Jiangsu Province.

Third, Jiangsu Province should make full use of the province’s medical resources - in the most efficient manner.

Fourth, all relevant parties should coordinate their efforts so as to organize transfers of the injured survivors, and also to assist the families of those killed and injured in the accident.

Fifth, Wang requested that relatives of the injured should receive psychological counseling so that they can assist with the recovery of their loved ones - and the families of the injured who are being transferred to Shanghai for treatment must also receive counseling and assistance.
