BEIJING — China recorded more than 8.4 million exits and entries across its border during the four-day May Day holiday starting May 1, said the National Immigration Administration (NIA) on May 5.

The country saw an average of more than 1.07 million entries and 1.03 million exits per day during this period, up 14.2 percent and 4.5 percent year-on-year, respectively. A total of 367,700 transportation carriers were inspected at the border checkpoints across the country, with the average daily number rising 12.95 percent year-on-year, according to the NIA.

The passenger volume at border check stations in major airports, including Beijing Capital International Airport, Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, increased steadily during the holiday, while the tourist flow across land border check sites near Hong Kong and Macao rose notably.
