China is committed to attaching great importance to tackling the climate change issues and will strive to take more active measures, said Xie Zhenhua, China’s special representative on climate change affairs.

Xie made the remarks on Nov 26 at a State Council Information Office news conference on an annual report of China’s policies and action in addressing climate change.

The report was released by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, ahead of the 24th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will be held in Katowice, Poland, from Dec 2 to 14.

According to the report, China’s carbon intensity decreased by 46 percent last year from the 2005 level, far surpassing its goal to cut the amount of greenhouse gases per unit GDP by 40 percent to 45 percent by 2020.
