BEIJING — China’s Ministry of Commerce said on Aug 6 that the Chinese government will offer emergency relief aid worth 10 million yuan ($1.63 million) to help Myanmar’s flood victims.

Floods caused by heavy seasonal rainfall since June have hit many parts of Myanmar, destroying houses, farmland, railway lines, bridges and roads.

The ministry said in a statement to work to send the aid, including 100 motorboats, to Myanmar as soon as possible.

The Chinese Embassy in Myanmar has called on Chinese enterprises in the Southeast Asian country to extend aid to flood victims, with a meeting held on Aug 5 to coordinate efforts in a joint rescue mission.
