On the sidelines of the APEC meetings in Beijing, Premier Li Keqiang has expressed regret over Mexico’s cancellation of a high-speed rail project recently awarded to a Chinese-Mexican consortium.

During Premier Li’s meeting with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, he said the winning bid to build a high speed rail system by the Chinese-Mexican consortium was completely lawful. He asked the Mexican government to treat Chinese companies that invest in the country fairly.

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said the Chinese-Mexican consortium’s bid was fully transparent.

He added that Mexico supports investment by Chinese companies and will ensure their lawful rights.
